Directors Guild National Vice President Ed Sherin today announced the winners of the Seventh Annual DGA East Coast Student Filmmakers Awards.
The prestigious awards bring prizes of $2,500 to the winner in each of the following categories: Best African-American Student Filmmaker, Best Asian-American Student Filmmaker, Best Latino Student Filmmaker, and Best Woman Student Filmmaker. The award-winning films will be shown at an invitation only screening on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Directors Guild Theater, 110 West 57th Street, New York.
“The Awards honor, encourage and bring attention to outstanding minority and women film students in East coast film schools,” said Sherin. “We are proud of this opportunity to honor four extremely talented filmmakers who are representative of the Guild’s ongoing commitment to diversity in the entertainment industry.”
For only the second time since the DGA Student Filmmakers Awards began in 1994, all four winners are from the same film school: New York University. In 1998, each of the four winners attended Columbia University.

Tanya Steele - “Solace” - New York University
BEST ASIAN-AMERICAN STUDENT FILMMAKER:

BEST LATINO STUDENT FILMMAKER:
Cruz Angeles - “Abuela's Revolt”- New York University
BEST WOMAN STUDENT FILMMAKER:
Bridget Bedard - “Baby” - New York University
