Los Angeles – The Directors Guild of America made the following statement upon learning of the passing of Anthony Harvey:

“‘Films should be uplifting,’ Anthony once said, and his captivating and triumphant features are proof positive of his enduring directing legacy. His masterful adaptation of the Broadway play The Lion in Winter, for which he won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film, injected sharp wit and humor to the heady period piece, bringing forth indelible performances from Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn, who won an Academy Award for her role.

Anthony later earned accolades and DGA nominations for his TV movies, including a powerful retelling of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie and The Patricia Neal Story, a touching tribute to the actress’ difficult recovery following a stroke. In addition to his directing career, Harvey will be remembered for his collaborative work as an editor, leaving his imprint on such iconic films as Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita and Dr. Strangelove and Bryan Forbes’ The L-Shaped Room and The Whisperers.

DGA Awards:

Anthony Harvey won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for The Lion in Winter (1968).
