Developing Your Voice as a Leader on Set

November 16, 2021 A DGA Women's Steering Committee Virtual Event

On Tuesday, November 16, ahead of their online meeting, the Women’s Steering Committee (WSC) hosted the workshop, Developing Your Voice as a Leader on Set.

Moderated by Director Jen McGowan (The Twilight Zone) and led by Malika Amandi, Communication Consultant, Coach and founder of The Center for Women’s Voice, the workshop was designed to teach the participants to communicate effectively and authentically.

During the conversation, Amandi urged the participants to write a "Director’s Manifesto" utilizing a framework she designed called D.I.R.E.C.T [Define, Identify, Research & Reflect, Engage, Commit and Talk to yourself]. She provided practical advice on drawing boundaries, asserting leadership, and approaching challenging conversations. She also suggested to approach all situations from a place of genuine curiosity.

Following the moderated portion of the workshop, Amandi and McGowan fielded questions submitted by the online audience.
