“Some people never learn,” is the hilariously appropriate tagline for Director Jeff Tremaine’s comedic documentary feature, Jackass Forever.
After 11 years, the Jackass crew is back for their final crusade as Tremaine’s film reunites Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and others from the Jackass series, who are joined by a new cast of characters for another round of hysterical, wildly absurd, and often dangerous displays of physical comedy.
On February 12, after the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, Tremaine discussed the making of Jackass Forever during a Q&A moderated by Director Spike Jonze (Her).
During the conversation, Tremaine spoke about the process of making these movies.
“There is a kind of narrative to each bit and then – because there's a sort of series of things when we set something up – we always think, ‘Let's see how far we can take this.’ We also think when we're writing these bits, ‘What is the essence of this bit we need to capture?’ It's really not always about the dumb bit, it’s about the reactions. Honestly, the you can write the most expensive idea and it almost never makes the it into the movie. The most expensive idea is usually just this way to make everybody bored while they're waiting for it to get set up and while they're bored, they usually do something hilarious and spontaneous.”
In addition to his work on the Jackass films and television series, Tremaine’s other directorial credits include the feature films The Dirt, Bad Grandpa and Boob; the feature length documentary Angry Sky; episodes of series Swerved, Loiter Squad and Nitro Circus; and episodes of the television series documentaries 30 for 30 and Wildboyz.
Tremaine has been a DGA member since 2007.
