Director Amy Poehler discusses Wine Country

May 26, 2019 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The tag line “friendship is a trip” proves true when six women visit Napa Valley in Director Amy Poehler’s new comedy, Wine Country.

Poehler’s film tells the story of Abby (Amy Poehler), Rebecca (Rachel Dratch), Catherine (Ana Gasteyer), Val (Paula Pell), Jenny (Emily Spivey) and Naomi (Maya Rudolph), longtime friends who take a scenic Napa getaway to celebrate one’s 50th birthday and to relax and reconnect. But in vino veritas could be the subtitle as when the alcohol flows, tensions from the past boil over and the women begin questioning their friendships and futures.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on May 26, Poehler sat down with Director Nisha Ganatra (Late Night) to discuss the making of Wine Country.

Wine Country is Poehler’s feature directorial debut. Her other directorial credits include episodes of the series Parks and Recreation and Broad City. Poehler has been a DGA member since 2012.
