The Insult

Global Cinema Series Screens Ziad Doueiri’s The Insult

February 8, 2018 An Eastern Region Special Projects Committee Event

In modern-day Beirut, two men are finally forced to reconsider their lives and prejudices in Director Ziad Doueiri’s new drama, The Insult. Christian Toni and Palestinian refugee Yasser find themselves in court after an insult is blown out of proportion and the media circus surrounding the case puts the country through a social explosion.

The Insult is Lebanon’s official submission for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category of the 90th Academy Awards.

Following the Eastern Region Special Projects Committee’s Global Cinema Series screening in the DGA’s New York Theater on February 8, Doueiri discussed the making of The Insult in a conversation moderated by Director Marilyn Agrelo (An Invisible Sign).

Doueiri’s other directorial works include the feature films Lila Says, The Attack and episodes of Sleeper Cell and Baron noir. His feature West Beirut won the François Chalais Award at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.

  • The Insult is also screening in Los Angeles on Monday, March 19 as part of the Global Cinema Series' Week of 2018 Oscar-Nominated Foreign Language Films. Click here for more information.
