Danny Strong discusses Rebel in the Rye

September 24, 2017 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

The life of reclusive author J.D. Salinger is examined in Director Danny Strong’s new biographical drama, Rebel in the Rye.

Strong’s film shines light on the life of legendary author J.D. Salinger (Nicholas Hoult), detailing his relationship with socialite Oona O’Neill (Zoey Deutch), his experiences in World War II, and the writing process for his novel, The Catcher in the Rye, which catapulted him into worldwide fame upon its publication.

Following the New York Los Angeles DGA membership screening on September 24, Strong sat down with Director Brian W. Koppelman (Solitary Man) to discuss the making of Rebel in the Rye. Strong also spoke about the film in a conversation moderated by Director Richard Shepard (Dom Hemingway) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 17.

Rebel in the Rye is Strong’s feature directorial debut. His other directing credits include episodes of the television series Empire. Strong has been a DGA member since 2014.
