Meeting with Commissioner Menin

An Evening with NYC Commissioner Julie Menin

April 25, 2017 An Eastern AD/UPM Council Event

On April 25, the DGA hosted a meeting and reception with Julie Menin, Commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME).

Held in the Guild’s New York offices, the invitation-only meeting was designed exclusively for leading UPMs on current shows and features in New York City. The evening provided them with an opportunity to hear Menin’s ideas on film production and the New York film community and gave them a chance to raise their own issues of concern with the Commissioner. The exchange also helped the Commissioner better understand how the Guild functions and its significance in the film industry.

Following welcomes from DGA National Vice President Vincent Misiano and Board Member Mary Rae Thewlis, Commissioner Menin delivered a presentation about the many and various initiatives of MOME, from supporting the work of the film industry in New York City communities, to MOME’s initiative to bring the Grammy Awards back to New York, and everything in between.

After the presentation, Menin, along with MOME Deputy Commissioner Dean McCann, engaged in a roundtable discussion with the attending DGA members concerning the challenges of production in New York and discussed constructive solutions.
