Director Tom Ford discusses Nocturnal Animals

November 16, 2016 DGA Q&As in New York and Los Angeles

A novel penned by her ex-husband shakes up the life of a successful art-gallery owner in Director Tom Ford’s stylish new thriller, Nocturnal Animals.

Ford’s film tells the story of Susan (Amy Adams) a Los Angeles art dealer whose seemingly idyllic life is disturbed by the arrival of a manuscript of a novel written by her ex-husband Edward (Jake Gyllenhaal) and dedicated to her. As she is drawn deeper into the story, the themes it explores forces Susan to examine her past and confront disturbing truths about her present.

Following the November 16 DGA membership screening in New York, Ford sat down with Director Jonathan Demme (Ricki and the Flash) to discuss the making of Nocturnal Animals, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival. Ford also spoke about the film in a conversation with Director Lee Daniels (Empire) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 20.

In addition to Nocturnal Animals, Ford’s other directing credit is the feature film A Single Man. He has been a DGA member since 2008.
