Director Andy Serkis discusses Breathe

October 11, 2017 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

An adventurous couple refuse to give in despite a devastating disease in Director Andy Serkis’ new romantic biopic, Breathe.

In a celebration of human possibility, Serkis’ film tells the inspiring true love story of Robin and Diana Cavendish, who are determined to live their lives to the fullest after Robin is struck down by polio at the age of 28, confined to a hospital bed, and given only a few months to live.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on October 11, Serkis sat down with Director Marilyn Agrelo (An Invisible Sign) to discuss the making of Breathe. Serkis also spoke about the film following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 15 with Director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes).

While Breathe is Serkis’ feature directorial debut, he performed second unit directing work on Peter Jackson’s trilogy: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Serkis is also currently in post-production on his second feature film, The Jungle Book. He has been a DGA member since 2011.
