Tom McCarthy: Spotlight

November 8, 2015 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The powers both Church and State are challenged by a team of investigative reporters in Director Tom McCarthy’s new drama Spotlight.

McCarthy’s film retells the true story of how the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Spotlight” team of reporters from the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation within the local Catholic Archdiocese and a decades-long cover-up that reached the highest levels of Boston's religious, legal, and government establishments.

On November 8 following the DGA screening in Los Angeles, McCarthy spoke about the challenges of bringing this story to the screen and the joys of working with a powerhouse cast that included actors Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, Brian d'Arcy James and Stanley Tucci. The conversation was moderated by Director Jonathan Levine (The Night Before).

In addition to Spotlight, McCarthy’s work includes the feature films The Station Agent, The Visitor, Win Win, and The Cobbler. He has been a member of the DGA since 2009.
