2016 Emmy Directing Nominees Reception

September 13, 2016 A DGA Special Event

On September 13, the DGA held its annual Emmy Awards reception at Guild headquarters in Los Angeles. “Tonight, we congratulate members of our Guild who have been nominated for this year’s Emmy Awards in the directing categories,” said DGA Secretary-Treasurer Michael Apted in his welcome to the attendees.

“The work represented by tonight’s nominees runs the full gamut in tone and content,” Apted continued. “From battling bastards to scheming vice-presidents to live singing and dancing from a ‘50s musical — this past year’s work has been quirky and comedic, historical and political, satirical and serious. All of it compelling and accomplished and, often, frankly, achieved against the odds.

“The director’s task is getting tougher by the day. With the increasing demand for complex work of high quality on shrinking budgets and tighter schedules — the pressure on the director to deliver excellence is almost criminal. But not only do you all deliver, you deliver work of the highest quality. Regardless of how things turn out at the Emmy Awards, you are all winners to us. Your Guild is very proud of your excellence and achievement.”

Apted then turned the floor over to TV Academy Directors Peer Group Governor Gail Mancuso, who spoke a few words about the work of the organization before joining him in presenting the official 68th Annual Emmy Award Nomination Certificates to the attending director nominees.
