Director Peter Landesman: Concussion

December 16, 2015 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

An immigrant doctor takes on the might of the NFL when he uncovers a disturbing truth in Director Peter Landesman’s new drama Concussion.

Landesman’s film recounts the incredible true story of Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith), an accomplished neuropathologist who uncovers the truth about chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated blows to the head that several pro football players were been diagnosed with after their deaths, and how he fought for the truth to be known despite the wishes and powerful influences of the NFL.

Following the Los Angeles DGA screening on December 12, Landesman spoke about the challenges of bringing this story to the screen in a conversation moderated by Director Boaz Yakin (Max). Landesman also spoke about the film in a conversation with Director Mary Harron (The Moth Diaries) following the DGA screening in New York on December 16.

Concussion is Landesman’s second feature. His previous film was Parkland. He has been a member of the DGA since 2012.
