J.C. Chandor: A Most Violent Year

November 19, 2014 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

In Director J.C. Chandor’s new drama, A Most Violent Year, an immigrant fights to protect his family and business during one of the most dangerous years in New York City’s history.

Set during the winter of 1981, Chandor’s drama follows the lives of immigrant Abel Morales (Oscar Isaac) and his family as they attempt to realize the American Dream by building a business in the dog-eat-dog world of heating oil suppliers. But violence, urban decay, and corruption threaten to destroy all they have worked so hard to achieve.

Following the DGA screening in Los Angeles on November 9, Chandor spoke about the making of A Most Violent Year in a conversation with Director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now). He also participated in a Q&A with Director John Cameron Mitchell (Rabbit Hole) following the DGA screening in New York on November 19.

In addition to A Most Violent Year, Chandor’s filmography includes the features All Is Lost and Margin Call and the short Despacito. He became a DGA member in 2013.
