Charlie Siskel on Finding Vivian Maier

June 30, 2014 A Documentary Series Screening:

Finding Vivian Maier tells the story of a mysterious nanny who secretly took over 100,000 photographs and hid them away in storage lockers. The photos were discovered decades later as the result of an auction and Maier is now considered among the 20th Century’s greatest photographers.

John Maloof and Charlie Siskel’s film reveals Maier’s strange and riveting life and art through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her. Finding Vivian Maier won the John Schlesinger Award at the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize (tied with The Overnighters) at the 2014 Miami Film Festival Knight Documentary Competition.

Following the DGA Special Projects Committee’s Documentary Series screening in Los Angeles on June 30, Siskel discussed the making of the film in a conversation moderated by Committee Chair Jeremy Kagan.
