On September 2, the Documentary Series screened director Alex Gibney’s film My Trip to Al-Qaeda in the Guild’s Los Angeles Theatre.
The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Lawrence Wright’s (The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11) one-man play which chronicles fundamentalist Islam’s rise to power and explores Wright’s struggle to maintain his objectivity as a journalist writing about Islamic terror.
After the screening, 2007 DGA Documentary Award nominee/Academy Award®-winner Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side) and author Lawrence Wright discussed the making of My Trip to Al-Qaeda with Documentary Series Sub-Committee Chair Chuck Workman (Precious Images).
