DGA Awards Reality Programs Entry Form

The DGA Awards celebrates outstanding directorial achievement and we welcome your entry. Here are the Awards guidelines and entry form for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs. You must agree to these rules at the bottom of the page in order to go to the Entry Form.

  1. Director Eligibility: Entries must be directed by a DGA member under a DGA Agreement. A director may enter one program in this category. Entries are accepted only from the director of the program.

  2. Eligibility: Only Reality Programs that have originally aired on television or on the Internet during the period of January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019 are eligible. Programs exhibited theatrically prior to television or internet exhibition are not eligible. Reality Programs are nonfiction series or specials. The inclusion of any Reality content requires that the entry be placed in the Reality Programs category. Programs featuring dramatic or variety performances are not eligible. DGA-covered programs produced specifically for the internet are eligible. Programs that are only broadcast locally (even if available on the internet) are not eligible.

  3. Length: Entries must have a minimum broadcast format length of approximately one-half hour.

  4. Credit: The director must have exercised all traditional directorial functions in connection with original photography and received an on-screen "Directed By" credit.

  5. Entry Requirements:
    • The Director must submit a completed DGA Awards entry form. A confirmation e-mail will be sent upon receipt of the entry form.
    • Entries must have a Deal Memorandum on file with the DGA for the project being submitted.
    • The Director must provide a secure, password protected HD link of the Reality Program, with the following specifications: QuickTime Movie in Apple ProRes, 1920 x 1080. This link will be forwarded to the DGA Awards Director Member Panel and must remain active for the duration of the voting period.
    • All entries must be received in the Awards office by 6:00 P.M. PST, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2019. No entries will be accepted after the deadline.
  6. Judging Process: Reality Programs entries will be viewed by a Director-Member Nomination Panel which votes by secret ballot. The five entries that receive the highest number of votes will be announced as the 2019 DGA Reality Programs Nominees on January 6, 2020. These five will then be viewed by a Director-Member Blue Ribbon Panel that will, by secret ballot, select the winner of the 2019 DGA Reality Programs Award. The winner will be announced at the 72nd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

Should you have any questions or do not have access to an HD link and would like to send DVDs with your entry, please contact the Awards Administrator Maggie Holmes in the DGA Awards Office at Awards@dga.org or (310) 289-2038.
