Outfest, the 29th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, presented 164 films and videos from 25 countries, as well as several panels, special events, parties, and receptions in several different venues around the city from July 7 to 17. Once again the DGA served as both a venue of the festival and a sponsor. The Guild’s Los Angeles headquarters also served as the central nexus for the festival.
As part of the Guild's outreach efforts for independent filmmakers, on July 11 the DGA also presented one of the festival’s premium events, a luncheon for the filmmakers participating in this year's Outfest. Director Charles Herman-Wurmfeld (The Hammer) spoke to the assembled about the advantages to be found with membership in the DGA. Adding to the Guild’s presence at the luncheon were Outfest supporters, directors Randal Kleiser (Red Riding Hood) and Dan Ireland (Jolene), as well as DGA members with films in the festival: directors P. David Ebersole (Hit So Hard) and Steven Williford (The Green).
Outfest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing, showcasing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender images. It is the oldest continuously running film festival in the city.
