Los Angeles – The Directors Guild of America issued the following statement on the passing of television Director Howard Storm:
“The entire DGA community mourns the passing of acclaimed television Director Howard Storm. He was a trailblazer in the genres of comedy and sitcoms, with an illustrious career that spanned decades.
Howard was a dedicated DGA leader. Through his longstanding commitment to Guild service – including 17 years as Chair of the DGA Awards Committee, service on seven Negotiating Committees, two terms as First Alternate on the National Board, and six terms as an Alternate Board Member on the Western Directors Council – Howard fought to secure and expand important protections for television Directors, ensuring their work was respected and their contributions recognized.
Howard began directing in 1975 with an episode of Rhoda for CBS. He would go on to direct hundreds of episodes of television across more than 40 hit shows, including ALF, Laverne & Shirley, Full House, Taxi, Mork & Mindy, and Everybody Loves Raymond. He also directed the 1985 horror-comedy feature Once Bitten. His work on Kenan & Kel earned him a DGA Award nomination for Outstanding Directing in Children’s Programs in 1997.
The DGA will miss his humor, warm presence, and deep love for the craft. Our deepest condolences are with his family.”
