LOS ANGELES, CA — Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted made the following statement on the passing of noted director Ingmar Bergman:
"Bergman was the epitome of a director's director - creating beautiful, complex and smart films that imprinted permanently into the psyche - inspiring filmmakers all over the world to create their own movies with similar passion and brio. The true depths of his talent surfaced over a lifetime of filmmaking - and it was for his unforgettable body of work that the DGA gave Bergman its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990."
