Esperanza Martinez to Receive Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award

Esperanza "Candy" Martinez will be the recipient of the Directors Guild of America Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award, DGA President Martha Coolidge and Awards Committee Chairperson Howard Storm announced today. The Schaffner Award, given to an Associate Director or Stage Manager in recognition of service to the Industry and to the Directors Guild of America, will be presented to Martinez at the DGA Awards on March 1, 2003.

Martinez, who has been a member of the DGA for three decades, became a member of the Associate Director/Stage Manager/Production Associate Council in 1984. During that time she has served as Secretary Treasurer, Chair and 1st Vice Chair and is currently on the Council's Orientation Committee. Her Committee service includes the Special Projects Committee, Outreach Committee and numerous Network Negotiating Committees as well as the Ethnic Diversity Steering Committee, of which she is currently Co-Chair.

Martinez's Associate Director credits include Yankees Championship Parade, Remembering 9-11 Special and Live With Regis and Kathie Lee, in addition to Eyewitness News where she has worked as an Associate Director for nearly thirty years.

The Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award was established in 1991 in recognition of an Associate Director's or Stage Manager's service to the Industry and to the Directors Guild of America. Franklin Schaffner served as DGA President from 1987 - 1989. Past recipients of the Award include Anita Cooper-Avrick, Robert Van Ry and Scott L. Rindenow.
