Directors Guild of America Joins National Coalition on Health Care

September 30, 2002

Recognizing the impending crisis in the spiraling costs of health care, members of the Directors Guild of America's National Board voted today to join the National Coalition on Health Care (NCHC), a broad-based alliance dedicated to improving America's health care.

"Joining the coalition means that we, as directors and members of the directorial team, can play an important role in educating the public about the alarming crisis and in continuing to assure quality health care, not only for our members, but for all Americans," DGA President Martha Coolidge said.

NCHC, a non-partisan organization, consists of more than eighty entities including pension funds, major corporations, national unions, associations of health care providers and consumer groups who have joined together to face the challenge of providing high-quality, affordable health care.

The Coalition's President, Henry E. Simmons, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., made a presentation to the DGA's National Board, which then considered the role which the Guild should play in raising the level of national awareness to the need for health care reform.

The Coalition's Honorary Co-Chairmen are former Presidents George Bush, Gerald R. Ford and Jimmy Carter. Its Co-Chairmen are former Governor Robert D. Ray (R-IA.) and former Congressman Paul G. Rogers (D-FL.).
