DGA Western Executive Director/ Entertainment Union Coalition President Rebecca Rhine recently issued the following statement on the Passage of AB/SB 186
“On behalf of our 167,000 members across California, the Entertainment Union Coalition (EUC) thanks Governor Newsom and Legislators for ensuring that the recently enacted SB 122 would not undermine the competitiveness of the California Film and Television Jobs Program passed just last year. AB/SB 186, passed this evening and sent to Governor Newsom, contains critical modifications to the program that support the fragile recovery of our industry here in California. We appreciate that Assemblymember Rick Zbur and Senator Ben Allen saw the risk and worked diligently on a very short timeline to achieve passage in the final hours of this Legislative session, and we appreciate the Governor’s commitment to our industry and this bill.
Most importantly we want to recognize the major role our members played in today’s success as advocates for their industry in California. They sent an unprecedented 450,000 letters to the California legislature, making clear the negative impact that SB 122 would have on their livelihoods, their families, and their communities. Once again, it was our members’ voices that most effectively communicated the real-world implications of disrupting our program’s nascent effort to keep California rolling.
Looking ahead, the EUC, alongside other industry stakeholders, will continue to champion our California’s Film and Television Jobs Program and the importance of keeping this iconic California industry that is the envy of the world in the state that gave birth to it over 100 years ago. When our industry thrives, California thrives.”
