On January 31, DGA members assembled for a meeting in Atlanta, GA. Hosted by the Guild and the Atlanta Coordinating Committee (ATLCC), the event provided the opportunity for the attendees to network with fellow members, meet DGA staff, hear what the Guild is doing to protect and extend their creative and economic rights, and contribute to the discussion of how the DGA can best represent its members.
The meeting began with a welcome by ATLCC members, Director Angela Barnes and 1st AD Jason Inman, who spoke briefly about the work of the Committee before introducing DGA Assistant Executive Director Mary Hatch.
After sharing more about the mission and future of the ATLCC as an elected Guild committee, Hatch delivered a report on the current state of the Guild and its activities. Acknowledging the impact that the production contraction is having on members in Georgia and elsewhere, she highlighted work being done by the DGA to promote domestic production, increase the Guild’s international presence, safeguard members’ jobs from the threat of Artificial Intelligence, collect unpaid monies on members’ behalf, and help to secure the Pension & Health Plans. Hatch then addressed questions from the attendees about a variety of topics including upcoming industry negotiations, the Guild’s geographical jurisdiction and the approach to covering independent production.
Established by DGA National Board in February 2024, the Atlanta Coordinating Committee organizes Guild activities in the Atlanta area and hosts networking and educational events to help support professional opportunities for local DGA members. The ATLCC’s first elections will take place in 2026 and more information about the nominations process will be made available to Atlanta-area members as the election period approaches.
