During the most recent Freelance Live and Tape Television Agreement (FLTTA) negotiations, the Guild won a significant victory that, for the first time, includes the sharing of subscription streaming (SVOD) residuals among the Directorial team (see chart for below for breakdown).
This achievement provided the opportunity to review and revamp how residuals are allocated among Associate Directors and Stage Managers on all FLTTA projects where there is an AD and SM residual share. The Eastern and Western AD/SM/PA Councils recently approved new Residual Determination Guidelines which specify how the AD and SM residuals share will be allocated when there is more than one Associate Director or Stage Manager employed on a FLTTA project.

When there is more than one Associate Director or Stage Manager employed on a project, the respective residuals share will be allocated as follows:
Associate Directors
- The lead Associate Director, commonly known in the industry as the “control room Associate Director” or the “booth Associate Director,” will receive 60% of the Associate Director share.
- The remaining 40% Associate Director share will be allocated among all other Associate Directors based on total days worked on the project, except that any of these Associate Directors who are also credited on the project as an “Executive Producer,” “Supervising Producer,” “Line Producer,” or “Executive in Charge of Production”* will not be included in the share.
Stage Managers
- The lead Stage Manager, as that position is understood within the industry, will receive 60% of the Stage Manager share.
- The remaining 40% Stage Manager share will be allocated among all other Stage Managers based on total days worked on the project, except that any of these SMs who are also credited on the project as an “Executive Producer,” “Supervising Producer,” “Line Producer,” or “Executive in Charge of Production”* will not be included in the share.
Questions related to Residual Determinations will be presented to a Residual Determination Committee, comprised of members working under the FLTTA from the Eastern and Western regions appointed by the Chairs of the respective Councils, to provide guidance to DGA Staff.
*Additional titles of a similar kind may be determined by the Residual Determination Review Committee.
