Remembering Director Peter Werner (1947-2023)

The Guild mourns the passing of three-time DGA Award-nominated Director, Peter Werner.

A DGA member since 1977, Werner served on the Movies for Television Committee. He began his professional life as a teacher and documentary filmmaker before moving on to episodic television, movies for television and feature films. His nearly 100 directorial credits include the feature, Don’t Cry, It’s Only Thunder; movies for television such as the Emmy Award-nominated Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy; and episodes of The Wonder Years, Ghost Whisperer and Justified.

Werner was nominated for DGA Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Specials in 1990 for Hiroshima: Out of the Ashes and in 1995 for Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story. He was also nominated in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series category in 1985 for his Moonlighting episode “The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice.”
