Frankenheimer Fellowship Awarded to USC Film Student

November 01, 2010

Student Director David Chen of the University of Southern California (USC), is the recipient of this year's John Frankenheimer Memorial Fellowship.

Named for the late DGA Vice President, the fellowship was established in 2003 by the Guild and John's wife, Evans Frankenheimer, and is awarded to a graduate student majoring in film directing chosen by the directing faculty on the basis of artistic merit. The student receives $5,000.

"Words cannot properly express my gratitude and heartfelt thanks for your generosity and being named the recipient of the DGA-John Frankenheimer Directing Scholarship for 2010/2011," said Chen. "In an industry where there are no guarantees, I realize that any form of success that I have achieved, past, present and future, is directly resulting from the kindness of others such as yourselves. Your generosity is an example of gifts bestowed upon me that I will never be able to fully repay but hope to honor in my work while at USC and beyond."

The fellowship alternates annually between the Schools of Theater, Film & Television of both USC and the University of California, Los Angeles.
