DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth was presented with the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur (the French Legion of Honor). The ceremony took place on Thursday, September 17, at the Los Angeles residence of French Consul General David Martinon.
By decree of France's President, Nicolas Sarkozy, the award was presented by Consul General Martinon in recognition of Roth's service to the film industry, including having helped to create and promote the Franco American Cultural Fund (FACF), which fosters professional and cultural exchanges between French and American filmmakers.
"You are a beloved friend of the French Republic," said Martinon at the ceremony. "I am extremely proud to honor you tonight, surrounded by all our prestigious guests, family and friends."
"I am honored to be awarded the French Legion of Honor," said Roth. "France and the United States share a rich and wonderful cinematic history, and to be recognized for my role in strengthening the ties between our two film communities is truly special."
The Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur is the highest decoration in France and is awarded by the President of the French Republic to honor distinguished civil or military achievements.
