On November 6, the DGA Secretary-Treasurer Gil Cates and National Executive Director Jay D. Roth made the following statement regarding the passing of former AMPTP President Nick Counter:
"It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Nick Counter. Although we sat on opposite sides during labor negotiations, Nick was a friend, man of honor and worthy adversary, doing his best to represent his constituents. We shared the same goal - protecting our industry - yet often held different ideas at times about how to accomplish this. But ultimately Nick would always listen, evaluate and try to understand where we were coming from and look for a way to find a deal that worked for both parties.
On the evening of his retirement party just a few months ago, he was described as 'Always a Knight, steel true, blade straight.' Those true words resonate even more so now. The entertainment community has lost one of our own. He will be greatly missed."
