DGA Quarterly is a separate entity from DGA Monthly which will continue its coverage of Guild news, and events.
The new magazine will be a publication devoted exclusively to the craft of directing as seen by directors and their teams. It will have in-depth articles about the issues and interests of our members; expanded profiles of directors and their projects; a deeper look into our history and the achievements of the Guild, and expanded coverage of trends that affect us all. Television, News, Sports, Commercials, as well as Feature Films, will all be covered in its pages.
In addition to first-rate writing and compelling stories, the Quarterly promises great photography, reflecting Guild members’ appreciation for the visual image.
The premiere issue will include an interview with Robert Altman as he edits his fortieth film, a look at the often unheralded contribution of some of the 1st ADs who worked on the biggest films of the past summer, and an excerpt from Richard Schickel’s new biography of DGA Lifetime Achievement Award-winning director Elia Kazan.
Every issue will include a provocative topical piece, this time exposing the impact of piracy on Taylor Hackford’s DGA-Award nominated film Ray. In conjunction with the DGA’s ongoing celebration of 40 years of made-for-television movies, a story traces the history and accomplishments of the genre. And in a special photography feature, the magazine will offer a rare glimpse of Stanley Kubrick at work on the set of some of his finest films.
Look for the first issue of DGA Quarterly in early November.
