"I am proud to announce that Steven Soderbergh has been elected by the National Board to the post of National Vice President," said Apted. "Steven's strong influence as co-chair of our Creative Rights Committee resulted in significant creative rights gains for our members in the newly negotiated contracts and I am honored to work alongside him to address the issues facing our Eastern members."
Soderbergh stated, "For me, it's both a great privilege and a great challenge to serve the Guild as National Vice President. It will take a lot of hard work on my part to earn the kind of respect and results Ed Sherin generated during his term, but with the support of our terrific staff (and Ed, by the way), I'm excited and optimistic."
Apted thanked Sherin for his service in the position, "Ed has been a tireless advocate on behalf of our Eastern membership. In his seven-year tenure as National Vice President, Ed has overseen the renovation of the New York Headquarters building and theater, expanded programs and screenings for New York members, and presided over the prestigious DGA Honors event for the past five years. Although Ed may be stepping down from the leadership demands of the position, he will remain a vital part of our board of directors – and for that we are profoundly grateful."
Sherin said of the transition, "I have thoroughly enjoyed my stint as National Vice President, and after seven years in the position, I feel I have done everything I set out to do. Having concluded successful studio and network negotiations, I felt that this was the perfect moment for the Eastern Membership of the Guild to have fresh leadership. And with Steven as the new National Vice President – the Guild, and our Eastern membership, could not be better served."
