On October 10, the Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament took place at The Trophy Room in Hollywood. The tables filled and the excitement built as 125 DGA members, guests and sponsors assembled for an evening of fun and competition. The event was a fundraiser created to benefit the Foundation; a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting DGA members experiencing financial hardship.

“The world has changed underneath us all and DGA members with long careers working in their categories are facing hard new realities about their work, their finances, their healthcare and what comes next,” said DGF Chair Todd Holland in his welcome to the tournament attendees. “Amidst that storm of uncertainty stands the Foundation — which for over 80 years has provided confidential, interest-free loans to DGA families in financial crisis. Change is inevitable. What is constant is the 81-year legacy of DGA members coming together to support their own. And so, we thank you for being here tonight to continue that great tradition.”

Holland then turned the proceedings over to the Tournament’s Co-Chairs, Gil Cates, Jr. and Cleve Landsberg, who acknowledged the tournament’s host committee, the impressive list of sponsors, and all the individuals whose participation made the evening possible with special shout outs to DGA President Christopher Nolan and the Guild’s national Executive Director Russell Hollander before announcing the start of tournament play.

After hours of friendly games, the competitors were winnowed down to a final table where Jaden Miller, a guest of gold tournament sponsor Sugarfish, drew the winning hand and was awarded the grand prize.
