On August 27, the Latino Committee’s (LC) meeting featured the discussion ¡Nuestra voz, nuestra fuerza, nuestra lucha! (Our Voice, Our Strength, Our Fight) with guest speakers DGA Assistant Executive Director Faith Santilla and Diana Barbadillo, an active Legal Observer and Executive Board Co-President of the National Lawyers Guild.
In a conversation moderated by LC Co-Chair Eli Gonda, Barbadillo shared the presentation Know Your Rights, a helpful guide in understanding how to assert your legal rights when encountering US law enforcement agents. She encouraged members to keep notarized copies at home of any identification documents they choose to carry on their person, and to get involved in local community organizations.
Santilla further advised that if ICE shows up to your set, first contact your employer — be it your employee representative, respective HR department, or studio safety hotline — and then call the DGA’s safety hotline.
Note on Safety Issues:
The DGA is here to assist members with questions and concerns related to safety. The Guild’s worldwide Safety Hotline is in operation 24/7. Individuals can ask safety-related questions or report an issue or accident by calling the hotline at (310) 289-5326.
When you call the hotline, you will be connected to a live representative, who will put you immediately in touch with the Guild representative on-call or give you the opportunity to be called back at a time that’s convenient for you.
ABOUT THE COMMITTEE:
The Latino Committee was created as a networking group to advance career and job opportunities for Latino DGA members by improving craft skills, networking, and making Latinos better known to the Hollywood creative community.
