On September 24, the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) online meeting featured the discussion, Development Toolkit: The Pitch Deck!
During a discussion moderated by FOWC Co-Chair Ellen Athena Catsikeas, Creator and Designer Jenny Deller walked the attendees through a few basic steps to help pre-visualize and pitch a vision for a film, series or documntary with pitch decks.
Deller, whose information on pitch decks have assisted award-winning film, television and commercial creators land work for Warner Brothers, HBOMax, Showtime, AppleTV+, TNT and USA Networks, shared some of the latest ideas that are helping Directors in narratives and documentaries advance their projects, and get their pitches off to a great start. She took members through a presentation that described the difference between a look book and a pitch deck which Deller describes as a visual aid for a live pitch. She revealed information including the types of pitch decks, what should go into a pitch deck, resources to pull from, and took members through sample pitch decks from different types of projects. She also answered questions about tips and tricks to finding images, length of pitch decks, how to effectively use a pitch deck during a pitch meeting.

Originally a sub-committee of the Eastern Directors Council, in 2020 the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) was designated an official and permanent committee of the DGA National Board for women members residing in the Eastern Region. The Committee would like to remind members that while their events are designed with a special focus on women Directors, all DGA members are welcome to attend.
