Director John Lee Hancock discusses The Little Things

Two cops attempt to stop a serial killer in Director John Lee Hancock’s thriller, The Little Things.

In Hancock’s film, Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon joins forces with Sgt. Jim Baxter to search for a serial killer who's terrorizing Los Angeles. As they track the culprit, Baxter is unaware that the investigation is dredging up echoes of Deke's past, uncovering disturbing secrets that could threaten more than his case.

On January 27, Hancock discussed the making of The Little Things in a DGA Virtual Q&A session moderated by Director Karyn Kusama (Destroyer).

During the conversation, Hancock spoke about how his collaboration with his Cinematographer John Schwartzman, Production Designer Michael Corenblith and Costumer Daniel Orlandi enhanced the production.

“We've all worked together so many times,” said Hancock. “Prep becomes not only important like it always is, but really, really fun because we are constantly knocking ideas around together because our decisions about palette -- obviously, Michael's chiming in on that and Daniel is chiming in from a Wardrobe standpoint. So, as opposed to everybody going off and making their own movie, and then at the last minute you go, 'Wait a minute. These things don't mesh.' They're meshing very early on."

In addition to The Little Things, Hancock’s credits include the feature films The Highwaymen, The Founder, Saving Mr. Banks, The Rookie, The Alamo and The Blind Side; and episodes of the television series L.A. Doctors and Falcone.

Hancock has been a DGA member since 1999.
