Director Emilio Estevez (Bobby; Culture Clash in AmeriCCa) discussed the politics of directing his own father, actor Martin Sheen, in his new film The Way following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 17.
In the film an American doctor (Sheen) goes abroad to recover the body of his estranged son (Estevez) who died while traveling the Camino de Santiago, a passage from France to Spain also known as The Way of Saint James, then decides to take on the historical pilgrimage in honor of his son.
Director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) served as moderator.
