On March 5, DGA members gathered in boardroom of DGA Headquarters in Los Angeles for the Asian American Committee’s (AAC) workshop and panel discussion, The Director-Actor Relationship.
The seminar was an exploration of how directors can successfully work with actors to craft and capture the best performances. The event featured directors Kabir Akhtar (Mumbai Calling) and Henry Chan (10 Things I Hate About You); and actors Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls), Lynn Chen (Saving Face) Teresa Huang (LOST), Leonardo Nam (He’s Just Not That Into You), and Aaron Yoo (Disturbia). The event was moderated by actor Michelle Krusiec (What Happens in Vegas), and director/AAC Co-Chair Emeritus Sandy Tung (Saving Shiloh).
In addition to the discussion that looked at the process from both sides, the directors and actors also gave live practical demonstrations of the process by using actual scenes to illustrate for the audience how they can work together to create the best finished product.
