On October 6, the Guild held a special farewell reception for retiring DGA Field Representative Don Gold. Guild members and staff from Gold's thirty years on the job gathered in the Los Angeles DGA Headquarters' atrium to bid Gold bon voyage.
Throughout his career, Gold has been a constant and formidable presence in the field, at DGA Council and Board meetings, and in negotiations. Viewed as an invaluable resource, Gold also served as a revered mentor to not only Guild members and many of his fellow DGA staffers, but to studio personnel as well.
After welcome messages and memories of working with Gold from DGA President Taylor Hackford and Secretary-Treasurer Gil Cates, National Executive Director Jay D. Roth took the podium to share tales from his long and rich history with Don. Then Roth presented Gold with tokens of the Guild's appreciation for his service and announced that effective with his retirement from his DGA staff position, Don was once again eligible to return to the ranks as a retired DGA member. Accepting his reactivated Guild card, Gold stepped forward to speak about how he loved working for the membership and how much he would miss being a DGA field representative.
