On May 4, members gathered in the DGA's New York boardroom for a discussion about how to get a project started on their own.

Entitled Self Starters, the seminar was part of the Eastern Directors Council's (EDC) Focus on Women Series. Director Maggie Greenwald (Songcatcher) moderated a panel that featured Directors Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) and Pamela Yates (The Reckoning), Producer Anne Rosselini (Winter's Bone) and entertainment attorney Jodi Peikoff. The panelists described the methods one may use to create a project instead of waiting for a green light from an external source. They also discussed methods to overcome obstacles likely to be encountered along the way, as well as the incentives for doing it yourself.
