AAC Celebrates its 10-Year Anniversary

In honor of a decade of accomplishments, on May 11, 2010, the DGA Asian American Committee (AAC) hosted a special celebration in the Guild's Los Angeles headquarters boardroom.

AAC Co-Chair Emeritus Sandy Tung (Across the Tracks) moderated a feature film directors roundtable where panelists Karyn Kusama (Jennifer's Body), Leena Pendharkar (My Narmada Travels), Kevin Tancharoen (Fame), and James Wong (Final Destination) discussed their careers, the craft and the future of feature films.

The evening also commemorated the work that started in 2000 when the AAC was created. Since that inception, the AAC has worked to fulfill its mandate via seminars such as The Secret to a Successful and Fulfilling Relationship (with your Agent, of course), and How to Remake a Horror Film; annual participation with events like the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival; and a series of mixers held in cooperation with other DGA committees dedicated to improving diversity in the industry.

The AAC has also hosted screening events with notable directors such as John Woo (Windtalkers), Freida Lee Mock (Wrestling with Angels: Playwright Tony Kushner), Wayne Wang (A Thousand Years of Good Prayers), Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding), and two-time DGA Award winner Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Brokeback Mountain).
