Second AD DGA members gathered for their fourth annual brunch meeting at the Guild’s Los Angeles headquarters on March 20, 2010. Hosted by the Western AD/UPM Council’s Second AD Committee, this year’s event was entitled The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: An Interactive Discussion of 2nd AD Issues, and was designed as a sounding board to air the challenges faced by members in this category.

Following greetings from Western AD/UPM Council Chair Cleve Landsberg (FlashForward), Second AD Committee Co-Chair Jennie O’Keefe (The Office) explained that the ultimate goal for this morning was to come up with concrete suggestions to forward to the AD/UPM Council’s Proposals Committee for consideration in the upcoming negotiations.

Committee Co-Chair Tim Engle (Beautiful Boy) gave a Powerpoint presentation that served as a framework on how to best achieve this goal by considering what works, what doesn’t work, how things can be better, and how to zero in on wider problems that can only be changed through contract negotiations.

The assembly then broke into smaller discussion groups, each led by a Second AD moderator which included O’Keefe, and Committee Members Lisa Chu (Towelhead), Staci Lamkin (Lincoln Heights) and Shawn Pipkin (Temple Grandin). As each group came up with suggestions, they were sent via instant messenger to Committee member Marc Newland (Takers) who compiled them all for a final presentation after everyone reconvened in the boardroom at the end of the day.
