Developing Opportunities in New Media

Following their monthly meeting on Saturday, September 12, the African American Steering Committee (AASC) presented the panel discussion Developing Opportunities in New Media in the boardroom of DGA headquarters in Los Angeles.

The panel focused on New Media projects by and about African Americans and featured experts in the field including DGA Director-member Yule Caise (Heroes Going Postal); Side Dish Studios Web Designer Jason Honey; and Codeblack Entertainment Producer/VP Angela Northington, and DGA Special Assignments Executive Lisa Layer. UPM/Producer Messiah Jacobs (Robert Townsend's Diary of a Single Mom) moderated the discussion, and the event was organized by the AASC's AD/UPM Rep Tracey Smith Baumert and Director Rep Joy Kecken. The experts shared valuable insights and strategies for taking advantage of emerging employment opportunities including: designing your own website; creating internet content; product placement considerations; working under the DGA’s New Media contract; and the creative and technical aspects of designing shows for the internet.
