Global Cinema Series Screens Michael Haneke's "The White Ribbon"

On September 3, the Special Projects Committee's Global Cinema Series transported the Los Angeles DGA theatre audience back to pre-WWI Germany with a screening of Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon (Das weisse Band).

The White Ribbon reveals the discord beneath the surface of a seemingly tranquil rural village when several families are plagued by a series of bizarre, inexplicable incidents that tear apart the relationships among the villagers. The film explores the roots of violence and fascism and was the winner of the Golden Palm at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

After the screening, Director Michael Haneke (Caché, Funny Games, Time of the Wolf, The Piano Teacher) discussed the making of his feature with Global Cinema Chair Victoria Hochberg (Bad Boy).
