On Saturday, July 11, the DGA's Asian American Committee (AAC) hosted a conversation with DGA Board Member Kim Kurumada in the boardroom of Guild headquarters in Los Angeles. Kurumada, is this year's recipient of the Frank Capra Achievement Award, which is given to an Assistant Director or Unit Production Manager in recognition of service to the industry and the DGA.
Moderated by AAC Co-Chair Ron Dempsey, the discussion explored Kurumada’s more than three decades long career where he worked as an AD, UPM and producer alongside Directors such as James Bridges, John Carpenter, Barry Levinson, Herbert Ross and DGA President Michael Apted. Kurumada also spoke about his involvement with the Guild, where his distinguished service includes his longtime participation on the Western AD/UPM Council that he formerly chaired, as well as numerous Guild committees and three terms on the DGA National Board.
