Creating Visual Effects for Motion Pictures

On Saturday, June 13, 2009, the Executive Committee of the San Francisco Coordinating Committee (SFCC) hosted its second seminar of the year - Creating Visual Effects for Motion Pictures.

Held at Kerner Optical in San Rafael, the all-day event featured an in-depth discussion and with DGA director-member/visual effects supervisor Scott Farrar (Transformers), Second AD/ visual effects producer Jana Spotts (Journey to the Center of the Earth), and visual effects supervisor Rick Schulze (The Matrix Revolutions) offering their analysis of the various complexities of the newest technical advances in Visual Effects in a conversation moderated by DGA director-member/SFCC Chair Tim Boxell (Valley of the Heart's Delight).

The panelists offered numerous clips and anecdotes from the VFX world including Farrar's clip of the evolution of Transformers and the various elements used to make a VFX shot for those movies; Spotts' overview of how an AD's skills are useful in the VFX world, and Schulze's tips on what software to use for do-it-yourself VFX shots and composites.
