Shoot It Green: Eco Friendly Production Practices

On March 14, 2009, the Eastern AD/UPM/TC Council's Orientation/Education & Mentorship Committee presented the seminar Shoot it Green: Eco-Friendly Production Practices in the boardroom of DGA offices in New York. The event explored the subject of how to revise current pre-production, production, and post-production practices in a world of ever increasing eco-awareness.

The panel featured Eastern AD/UPM Council members UPM/DGA Second Alternate National Board member Kathleen McGill, UPM Alysse Bezahler, Second AD/Location Manager Trish Adlesic; and Jennifer Lenihan, Director of Client Relations and Community Outreach of the NYC Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) who oversees the agency's green initiatives, including the section of the MOFTB website that provides resources to aid productions in staying environmentally friendly while shooting on location. The panelists shared their experiences on how a little perseverance, commitment and knowledge can help to develop successful green programs. DGA UPM/former Eastern AD/UPM Council Vice Chairperson Dana Kuznetzkoff served as moderator.

Keeping true to the eco-friendly spirit, the Committee reduced the footprint of the related materials for the seminar by printing the programs on half sheets of paper and referring participants to the "NY Green Guide," a comprehensive list of green media resources compiled by the New York Production Alliance and online at www.nypa.org.
