Continuing Education Directing Series Explores Casting

On Saturday, February 28, the DGA Special Projects Committee presented the third seminar in its educational series "Directing for Professionals," with Casting Can Be Beautiful.

Guild members met in the Los Angeles Headquarters Boardroom where a panel of experts from both the directing and casting arenas discussed a variety of subjects pertaining to the casting process.

The panel featured DGA director-members John Badham (Saturday Night Fever, War Games) and Burt Metcalfe (M*A*S*H, My Sister Sam) who worked as casting directors early in their careers; DGA Past President Martha Coolidge (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, Rambling Rose); DGA director-member Arthur Seidelman (A Christmas Carol - The Musical, By Dawn's Early Light); and casting director Fern Champion who has worked for such directors as Sidney Lumet, Alan Pakula and Billy Wilder. DGA Past President Gene Reynolds (M*A*S*H, Lou Grant) served as moderator.

Upcoming sessions in this series are slated to feature discussions on what directors need to know about Performance, Virtual Sets, Editing, Music, and Performance.
