On Saturday, October 11, 2008, the Special Projects Academic Outreach Sub-Committee of the DGA presented the 2008 Student Open House in Los Angeles’ DGA Theatre 2. The event was designed to give Southern California film school students a unique opportunity to learn about DGA membership, how to apply for the Assistant Directors Training Program, and hear from directors working in film and television how they got started in their careers.
Following a welcome message delivered by DGA Special Projects Academic Outreach Sub-Committee Chair Randal Kleiser and remarks from DGA Special Assignments Executive Lisa Layer and Directors Guild-Producers Assistant Directors Training Program Administrator Janet Dyer, the students viewed a screening of the Guild’s promo short film, Directing: How To Get There.
Then Kleiser (Red Riding Hood) moderated a panel discussion on how to jumpstart a career with DGA director-members Mary Lambert (The Dark Path Chronicles), Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand), Richard Shepard (Ugly Betty), and Chuck Vinson (Last Comic Standing).
