On Saturday, September 27th, 2008, the DGA Special Projects Committee launched its educational series Directing for Professionals, with the seminar The Script: From Start to Finish.
Guild members met in the Los Angeles Headquarters Boardroom to hear DGA director-members Robert Butler (Remington Steele; Hill Street Blues; Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Arthur Seidelman (By Dawn’s Early Light; Magnum P.I.; L.A. Law), Joan Tewkesbury (Cold Sassy Tree; Northern Exposure; The Guardian), and Michael Zinberg (Quantum Leap; Everybody Loves Raymond; Lost) discuss everything about how directors work with the script, ranging from how to decide if you want to make the project, to how to work with the writer to fulfill your vision. DGA Past President Gene Reynolds (M*A*S*H; Lou Grant; Touched by an Angel) served as moderator of the conversation.
