On July 24, the DGA Women’s Steering Committee (WSC) hosted a special screening of director Kari Skogland’s new feature film, The Stone Angel.
The screening was followed by a discussion about the making of the film with WSC Co-Chair Skogland (Fifty Dead Men Walking, Liberty Stands Still), and moderator Director Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam; Corinna, Corrina) in DGA Theatre 2 in Los Angeles. They were joined onstage by the film’s star — Academy Award-winning actress Ellen Burstyn — and co-star Kevin Zegers.
Skogland had high praise for the contributions of her cast. “One of the things I really believe in is trusting the actors,” she said. “They know their characters tremendously well so, it was really great to make a film that way — where it feels like we’re in partnership — because I think that’s how it should be.”
